Halal compliance

Our 3-gates methodology

Every product passes three gates before entering the catalogue. If a product fails even one gate, it does not enter. No exceptions. Around 60% of what suppliers send us does not make the final selection.

Recognised certifying bodies

For products where halal certification exists (food, cosmetics) we accept documentation exclusively from these bodies:

HCSHalal Correct ServiceNL
HFCEHalal Food Council EuropeEU
HQCHalal Quality ControlNL · EU
HFAHalal Food AuthorityUK
JAKIMJabatan Kemajuan IslamMY
MUIMajelis Ulama IndonesiaID

For categories without formal certification (tasbih, books, décor) we apply our 3-gates methodology with direct contact with makers + Islamic-scholar consultation in cases of doubt.

Frequently asked questions

What does this mean in practice?

Are you halal-certified by an external body?

For products where a halal certificate exists (food, cosmetics), we require it to be present before listing. For artisanal products (tasbih, books, home décor) the 3-gates methodology applies because a formal certificate does not exist for those categories. We collaborate with Islamic scholars for borderline cases.

What if a product is not edible or drinkable — how can it be haram?

Haram in non-food products can arise from: alcohol-based perfumes, animal-derived components (adhesives, coatings), materials from a haram-financed supply chain, or makers working under exploitative conditions. We screen for each of these.

Are the Barakah Scores externally verified?

Halal certification on food: yes, by the recognised certifying body. The other 3 criteria (fair-source, maker ethics, packaging) are scored internally according to a documented methodology. In 2026 we plan an external audit by an Islamic-ethics consultant.

What if I have doubts about a specific product?

Send us the product and your concern via contact. We will walk you through the specific source documentation. If our methodology does not convince you — do not buy. We prefer that to a purchase made in doubt.

Question about a specific product?

We are happy to share the source documentation.

Every purchase deserves a clear conscience. Ask your question — we answer personally.
